Parliament Approved Six Months Maternity Leave for Women as Rakhi Gift

In present scenario where everybody is busy in their professional life and you hardly get time for anything else. Even the motherhood has taken a backseat in professional women’s life. Now, because of high competition and busy life schedules, the married couples don’t think for having a baby in the initial years of marriage. The Indian government has recently passed a bill for better retention of female employees at workplace. According to the new bill, the female staff can enjoy the double paid leaves to 26 weeks from 12 weeks as allotted earlier. This is a great relief for women employees as they need not to worry a lot, according to new bill they can take more paid maternity leaves to take care of their newborn.




Some important highlights of this Maternity bill:

  • ·         Work from Home’ option to be made available to mothers
  • ·         Creche facility to be mandatory for any company/establishment having more than 50 working women 

Presently, in India the women workforce has declined from 25% to 16% at the entry level. The ratio is even worse at top level where just 4% participation of women is notices, but at mid-level the percentage is 16%. This amendment in the maternity bill will allocate more time to women for child rearing, experts believe this will bring some relief for women workforce.

  • B P Biddappa, HUL, said, "It will enable women across India to integrate their personal and professional aspirations. I believe this amendment will help drive family-friendly policies that help women build seamless and satisfying careers."
