Maha Shivaratri Wedding Day Festival of Lord Shiv and Parvati

Maha Shivaratri is one of the important Hindu festivals of Lord Shiva. This festival is known as Shivaratri across the world for the Hindu devotees.  As per the mythology, God Shiva and his wife Goddess Parvati got married on this day. Maha Shivaratri means the Great Night of Lord Shiva which remarks the connection of Shiva and Shakti. It is celebrated in the every part of India and neighboring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Shivaratri is the Holy day of marriage of Lord Shiva and Shakti Parvati.

 Maha Shivratri Festival Celebration
Shivratri day, people give prayers in temple with Bael leaves to Lord Shiva and fasting for the God Shiva. ‘Jagaran’ festival is organized to night for devotees pray with ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ mantra of Shiva. Pilgrims come with family members with new clothing for holy bath with pots of water to bathe the Lord Shiva. The worshipers revolved seven times circulation the Lingam and pour milk and water. The Woodapple and Bel leaves are given to the Shiva. Vermilion paste is given the devotees for marking on the forehead. Lighting of the Maha Deep (Great Lamp) is done in the mid-night at Shiv temples.
